Subway “Swiper” Busted at Bedford Pk. Station

PLAINCLOTHES COPS FROM the NYPD’s Transit Bureau nab Devin Scott, an alleged subway swiper. They say he used a MetroCard to illegally sell admission to the underground subway station at the Bedford Park station on Sept. 4. Locals have long griped over so-called swipers lurking near turnstiles, hoping to convinced hurried straphangers to pay them $2 or more to swipe their MetroCard to let them through. Albany Nears Free MTA Transfer Extension 

The Albany Legislature has approved a bill to save commuters some money by adding an extra free transfer between MTA buses and subways within a two-hour window. Currently the MTA pay-per-ride fare costs $2.75, which includes one free transfer that can be used for up to two hours. However, bad service and train delays can force commuters to pay another fare if their transfer expires. Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz does not believe that commuters should pay for an extra fare due to service delays. New Bus Schedules for BxM4 Riders to Manhattan

The stress of the morning rush, where minutes matter and a mad dash to the bus is the norm, might become a bit easier for some north Bronx commuters. This comes after the MTA agreed to reschedule BxM4 buses a cool 10 minutes earlier. The buses take riders from Woodlawn to midtown Manhattan in just over an hour. The goal was to resolve a tardiness issue for passengers slated for work at 7 a.m. For afternoon rush commuters taking the BxM4 back to the Bronx, departure times will also be 10 minutes earlier. Bronx Notes: Suspended 4 Train Service This Weekend

Courtesy of our friends at Community Board 7: There will be no subway service between the 161st Street / Yankee Stadium and the Woodlawn station from 4 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday during the weekend of June 16-17. During this period “D” train and shuttle buses will provide alternative service. This service diversion is required to allow necessary track maintenance and panel installations on the Jerome Avenue Line.

Bronx Notes: Open House for Webster Ave. Select Bus Service

The Department of Transportation and MTA/New York City Transit are holding an open house to present the design ideas and to solicit public comments on the Webster Avenue Select Bus Service project, tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of Icahn Charter Middle School, 1506 Brook Ave.
