Former Bronx assemblyman, Michael Benjamin, announced that his mother, Kathleen A. Benjamin, née Conton, passed away at Calvary Hospital (Morris Park) on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at the age of 86. A native of Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Kathleen came to the Bronx in 1956 and later married husband, Ray Benjamin, in October 1957. She resided at Tracey Towers in the Jerome Park section of the borough, on the border with Norwood.   After three children and ten years as a “stay-at-home,” mother, Kathleen became a para-professional at the school her boys attended, P.S. 130X, on Prospect Avenue

Lehman College and iMentor Launch Program in Honor of English Faculty Member Alice Griffin 

Lehman College is partnering with the national mentoring organization iMentor to launch a new program that will provide 260 freshmen and transfer students, who are already enrolled in one of the organization’s high school programs, with one-on-one mentoring and support to help them excel academically and graduate college in four years.   The Alice Griffin Scholars Program is named in honor of Alice V. Live Music Returns to Lehman Center on Oct. 2, with a Free Celebratory Concert on Oct. 10

The stage lights at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts are once again beaming, as the center reopens to host an array of live performances. U.S. News Ranks Lehman College No. 4 in Social Mobility Among Regional Colleges

“I Do!” Lehman College Becomes Backdrop for Surprise Engagement of Two Former Students

  As Lehman students head back to campus for the Fall ’21 semester, the community has one extra reason to celebrate. CUNY’s Mexican Studies Institute at Lehman College Lands $1 Million City Council Award

The CUNY Mexican Studies Institute (MSI), housed at Lehman College, is celebrating its 10th year with a significant new investment from local lawmakers. In July, the institute received a funding allocation of $1 million from New York City Council to support its work.   CUNY MSI is one of just two research centers in the Northeast of the country dedicated to Mexican and Mexican American studies.
