UPDATE Feds Settle with NYS Gov Office in wake of Historical Sexual Harassment Allegations against Cuomo

The U.S. Justice Department announced on Friday, Jan. 26, that it has settled a legal dispute with NY State’s executive chamber (governor’s office) to resolve the justice department’s claims that NYS executive chamber, under former former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, engaged in a pattern or practice of sexual harassment and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

AG James Announces Manslaughter Charges against NYPD Sergeant in Fatal Water Cooler Throw

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Tuesday, Jan. 23, that manslaughter charges were being brought against New York City Police Department (NYPD) Sgt. Erik Duran, 37, of Putnam County, following a police-involved operation, as reported, during which a water cooler was thrown at Bronx man, Eric Duprey, 30, in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx last August, resulting in his death.

New Laws Introduced to Protect Children from Opioid Exposure

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Councilmember Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14), Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, and childcare advocates joined Otoniel Feliz Samboy and Zoila Dominici, the parents of the late Nicholas Feliz Dominici, 1, for a press conference on Fordham Road and Grand Concourse on Thursday, Dec. 14, to announce the introduction of a series of bills in the New York State Legislature and the New York City Council to protect children from opioid exposure in childcare facilities.

UPDATE Bedford Park: Man Shot Dead by Police Amid Family Stabbing Incident

A 30-year-old emotionally disturbed resident of Bedford Park supportive housing has died following a police-involved shooting following a domestic violence incident at the victim’s home. At least two family members had been stabbed prior to the shooting.
