Music legend Stevie Wonder received an honorary doctorate of humane letters at Fordham University’s 178th Commencement on May 20 at the college’s Rose Hill campus in Fordham Manor. Despite the dismal, intermittent rainfall, Wonder offered the Class of 2023 some words of heartfelt gratitude to be counted among its members.

Belmont: Man Charged in Killing of Fordham Heights Man also Charged in University Heights Fatal Shooting

Police said a 26-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal shooting in the Belmont section of The Bronx of 22-year-old Miguel Vargas from Fordham Heights in mid-February.   As reported, police said that on Monday, Feb. 13, at around 6.57 p.m., officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot inside 689 East 187th Street in Belmont.   An NYPD spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 22-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. UPDATE Crotona: 24-Year-Old Man Dies following Fatal Shooting

A 24-year-old man has died following a fatal shooting in the Crotona section of The Bronx.   Police said that on Saturday, May 6, at approximately 4.30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at 4371 Third Avenue, just south of the Belmont border. “Upon arrival, officers determined that a 29-year-old male was shot in the chest at the location and was transported via private means to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said.   “A firearm was recovered. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing,”

UPDATE Belmont: Missing 13-Year-Old Girl Located

  The New York City Police Department has said a 13-year-old girl reported missing from Belmont has been located.   Prior to the confirmation, police had said that Tatianna Strother of Belmont, The Bronx had last been seen on Monday, April 24, at around 2.40 p.m., leaving her school located in the Crotona section of The Bronx. Tatianna was described by police as female, Black, and prior to being located, had last been seen dressed in black and wearing a white headband.
