The nonprofit, Theory 9 Inc. held a fun-filled 5th Annual Back-to-School giveaway on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Fort #4 Playground at 2895 Reservoir Avenue in Kingsbridge Heights.

A back-to-school giveaway was held at La Central YMCA on Saturday, Sept. 7, in partnership with the Office of the Bronx Borough President, the Angellyh Yambo Foundation, Metroplus Health, RomoGIS, The Hub Third Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) and the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau. Families were invited to bring along their kids for a day of fun, games, and of course a backpack giveaway to coincide with the start of the school year.

With the cost of school supplies not getting any cheaper, various back-to-school giveaways held before the start of the school year served as a welcome gift to many struggling parents.

Hundreds Attend Peace Rally in Devoe Park

Youngsters were treated to an end-of-summer party as Friends of Devoe Park (FoDP) hosted their first ‘Peace Rally and Back-to-School Giveaway,’ in Devoe Park on Saturday, Sept. 10. Held inside the park, located along University Avenue between Father Zeiser Place and West Fordham Road in Fordham Manor, the event opened with a unity and protection prayer by FoDP core group member, Myrna Calderon. Nonprofit, Berry Awesome Blossom Empowered Sisters (“BABES”) held a back-to-school giveaway and “Stop the Violence” event at Cauldwell Avenue between 161st and 163rd Street, southwest of Forest Houses housing development, in Morrisania on Sept. 10. Music, games, sunshine and fun was the order of the day on Friday, Aug. 26, as Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, State Sen. Jamaal Bailey (S.D. 36), Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez (A.D. 80) and District 11 City Council Member Eric Dinowitz hosted a Back-to-School Family Day at the Williamsbridge Oval, in conjunction with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks).
