Spuyten Duyvil: 59-Year-Old Woman Dies after Tree Falls into Swimming Pool

A 59-year-old woman has died following a freak incident during which a tree apparently fell into an occupied swimming pool in Spuyten Duyvil.

 

Police said on Monday, Aug. 15, at around 1.37 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding two people who were being aided at 2621 Palisades Avenue, an 18-story residential building.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 59-year-old female and a 72-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma about the body,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and pronounced the 59-year-old female deceased at the scene and the 72-year-old female was transported to Allen Pavilion in critical but stable condition.”

 

Police said based on a preliminary investigation, a tree had fallen into a private pool located to the rear of the building, while both women were in the swimming pool.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The deceased has been identified as Donna Douglas, 59, of 2621 Palisades Avenue, The Bronx.
