Sparkle Your Heart Tonight on Fordham Road

The Fordham Road Business Improvement District is kicking off the busiest commercial corridor in the Bronx’s holiday shopping season tonight with its “Sparkling the Heart of Fordham Tree Lighting Event” in Bryan Park (corner of East Fordham Road and East Kingsbridge Road) from 6 to 8 p.m. It’s completely open to the public and will include a visit from Santa Claus who will give away free books and gifts to the first 350 kids, plus holiday music featuring a performance by the Fordham University Gospel Choir and other fun activities, raffles, prizes and giveaways.

At the same time, the BID will be promoting a 10% holiday discount program at 68 participating Fordham Road businesses. All you need to do is present a BID-sponsored newspaper advertisement (might we suggest the print edition of the Norwood News, out on streets now. Or you can even print out a copy of the issue, which we have in pdf form online. The ad is on the back page.)

The Fordham BID is also providing extra security patrols that began on Black Friday and will continue through the end of the year.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
