Sen. Hassell-Thompson’s New Norwood Office Space

Ruth Hassell-Thompson
Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson is setting up new bi-weekly office hours inside Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, 3450 Dekalb Avenue (at Gun Hill Road) in the Bronx. She joins Councilman Oliver Koppell and Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz who also have office hours at MMCC. On Wednesday, Feb. 6, and every other Wednesday after that, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hassell-Thompson will have a staff member on site ready to assist anyone in need.

Hassell-Thompson (36th Senate District) took over all of Norwood and most of Bedford Park in January after new district lines were drawn last spring. Before this 2013, Norwood and Bedford Park were part of the 33rd District, currently represented by Gustavo Rivera.

Apart from the new periodic site, Hassell-Thompson can be reached at either of her two district offices — at 959 East 233rd Street in the Wakefield section of the Bronx and the second at 250 South 6th Ave., Doles Center, in Mount Vernon. To make an appointment at the Mosholu site, or for more information, call the Bronx district office at (718) 547-8854. The Mount Vernon district office number is (914) 665-2400.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
