Three masked men barged into a Norwood deli in a brazen robbery that took place during the overnight hours of Oct. 14.
One Legend Deli at 275 E. Gun Hill Rd. was robbed at gunpoint for $1,100, according to police. One of the men, holding a handgun, demanded cash from the employee behind the register. While one of the other men tied up two other employees. The third suspect made his way behind the counter and took cash from the register and stuffed it into a backpack. The whole ordeal took roughly three minutes.
The three perpetrators are described as Hispanic men in dark clothing. They fled the scene in a dark, four-door Sedan. The incident was caught on video, but no suspects have been identified.
The bodega falls within the commercial borders of the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District, charged with providing marketing and sanitation services to its 200-plus stores. The last robbery to happen within the BID’s borders happened a few stores up in the summer when El Jalapeno Food Market was robbed of a thousand dollars.
Detectives are trying to determine whether this is part of a larger robbery pattern linked to several robberies in Manhattan.
The latest robbery adds to the 254 reported robberies already on file for 2018 so far, compared to 252 the same time a year before, a nominal increase of 0.8 percent. Deputy Inspector Peter Fiorillo, who commands the 52nd Precinct investigating the case, was unavailable for comment.
