Primaries 2024: Michael Heller Announces Candidacy for Re-Election as State Committee Member in A.D. 81

Michael Heller announced Jan. 10 that he is running for re-election as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee, representing the 81st Assembly District, which covers much of the Northwest Bronx includes some or all of the neighborhoods of Norwood, Bedford Park, Wakefield, Woodlawn, Kingsbridge, Fieldston, Riverdale, North Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil. 

New Laws Introduced to Protect Children from Opioid Exposure

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Councilmember Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14), Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, and childcare advocates joined Otoniel Feliz Samboy and Zoila Dominici, the parents of the late Nicholas Feliz Dominici, 1, for a press conference on Fordham Road and Grand Concourse on Thursday, Dec. 14, to announce the introduction of a series of bills in the New York State Legislature and the New York City Council to protect children from opioid exposure in childcare facilities.

UPDATE Former B.R.A.G. Cure Violence Interrupter Michael Rodriguez Sentenced to 10 Years

Michael Rodriguez, 49, of local cure violence group, Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence (B.R.A.G.), and a resident of Yonkers, has been  sentenced in relation to drug related charges in Orange County. The sentencing was announced by Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler on Thursday, Jan. 4.
