Bronx Daycare Provider Gets 25 Years for Sexual Exploitation Of Child & Producing Child Pornography

Silfredo Castillo Martinez, the owner of a former Bronx licensed children's daycare facility, Lina’s Garden Daycare, located at 3525 Decatur Avenue in Norwood, was sentenced in federal court on Thursday, June 27, to 25 years in prison for producing child pornography with a minor victim who was under his watch at the daycare center.

UPDATE Primaries 2024: Unofficial Bronx Results & Reaction on Election Night, Latimer Declares Victory in NY-16

Despite the prolonged heatwave which could have possibly deterred some voters from showing up to vote for their local representatives on Primary Election Day, NYC Board of Elections reported that at three hours before poll closure on Tuesday, June 25, 20,946 voters had shown up to vote in The Bronx, and 148,355 across the City.  The initial unofficial local results are listed below after poll closure for the races in the north Bronx, with Rep. Jamaal Bowman declaring an early lead in the most contentious Democratic Primary race (NY-16). Anyone who was in line at 9 p.m. can still vote so these results will be updated as we receive more information. 

City Council Passes Sanchez Bill Inspired by Billingsley Terrace Partial Building Collapse

The New York City Council announced on Thursday, June 20, the passage of Int. No. 904-A, a bill designed to establish a first-of-its-kind, proactive inspection program at NYC Department of Buildings (DOB). The Billingsley Terrace Structural Integrity Act was introduced by City Council Member Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14) on April 25, as reported, in response to the partial building collapse that occurred at 1915 Billingsley Terrace in Morris Heights on Dec. 11, 2023, forcing over 150 tenants to lose their homes, as reported.

Building applications have been filed with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) for interior conversions of a 3-story, residential building at 2564 Davidson Avenue in the University Heights section of The Bronx, as reported by YIMBY.
