UPDATE Van Cortlandt Park: First Annual Veteran Appreciation Month Marked during 17th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

In recognition of New York City's first Veteran Appreciation Month, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined veterans, District 11 City Council Member Eric Dinowitz, Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), NYC Department of Veterans Services Commissioner James Hendon, officials from Van Cortlandt Park Alliance, Sergio Villaverde, vice chair of Bronx Community Board 8, other board members and guests on Sunday, Nov. 5, for Van Cortlandt Park’s 17th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony. 

Mt. Hope: Man Charged With Shooting Outside Deli on Edward L. Grant Highway

A 40-year-old Bronx man has been arrested following a daylight shooting in the Mt Hope section of The Bronx, four months after he was released from prison for a separate crime. One person was hit during the shooting. Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, James Smith, assistant director in charge of the FBI New York field office, and NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban announced the unsealing of a complaint charging Miguel Diaz with firing a weapon outside a Mt. Eden deli in The Bronx last month, wounding a victim in the arm.

UPDATE Elections 2023: Unofficial Results on Election Night, Marmorato Declares Victory in CD13

Turnout appeared to be pretty low and slow on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 7, as expected for a non-presidential election. All eyes were on the District 13 City Council race which saw Republican and Conservative candidate Kristy Marmorato lead incumbent Democratic City Councilwoman Marjorie Velázquez on Election Night by 10 p.m. an hour after poll closure, based on Election Day and early votes and with 96.67 percent of voting scanners returned. Mail-in ballots and overseas ballots also still have to be counted.

The rally held Sunday Oct. 8, by the [NY Chapter of the] Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), right after the abominable attacks on Israel on Oct. 7 is inexcusable. I call upon all community leaders and elected officials who have not already done so to renounce their support of or from the DSA immediately and do it by name.
