Bronx Notes: African and Muslim Community Enrichment Day

Bronx Council Member Helen Diane Foster and the 16th District African and Muslim Council host the 3rd annual Community Enrichment Day this Thursday, Oct. 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event will take place at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Lower Gallery, located at 1040 Grand Concourse (at 165th Street). The purpose of the event is to depict and focus on the advancements and growth of the African and Muslim community occurring in the Bronx, and their contributions to the community. New York City Council Citations of Merits will be awarded to “Rising Stars” and “Longevity in Leadership.”

Bronx Notes: Free Weekly Immigration Services

Councilmember Fernando Cabrera along with CUNY Citizenship Now! will provide free confidential legal services to qualified immigrants to help them in their pursuit of U.S. citizenship, Wednesdays, starting Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cabrera’s district office, 107 E. Bronx Notes: Districting Commission Hearing Tonight at BCC

The New York City Districting Commissions will be holding five hearings in New York City, all open to the public. The Districting Commission determines districts for the City Council and they seeking public input before they make their decisions. The Bronx hearing will take place Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Bronx Community College Hall of Fame Playhouse, 2155 University Ave. You must pre-register for the opportunity to speak at the hearing and can do so by signing up online at http://nyc.gov/districting. Note that speakers will be given the chance to speak up to three minutes of speaking time maximum. Bronx Notes: Sickle Cell Awareness Fair on Saturday

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore is hosting a Sickle Cell Awareness Month event and fair for families with children living with sickle cell disease on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Cherkasky Auditiorium inside Montefiore’s Moses Campus (at the Gun Hill Road entrance near Rochambeau Avenue). Learn about: managing your pain, new treatments for sickle cell pain, what is safe and with is not, alternative therapies, staying healthy. Lunch will be served.
