The Citizens Committee for New York City is sponsoring the fifth annual Quality of Life Survey Saturday, Sept. 8 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Bronx Library Center at 310 E. Kingsbridge Rd. off Fordham Road. Residents will be polled about their top concerns to guide government officials as they work to improve quality of life in the area. The first rehearsal for the Lehman College Chorus, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., will be held on Monday, Aug. 27. The Lehman College Community Chorus, which meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m., will start Tuesday, Aug. 28. Community members are welcome to join either chorus.

There are spots available at Bronx Community College's Project Hire, a 20-week program that prepares people to enter construction unions. Candidates must be between 18 and 60, low-income and a citizen or resident alien. No construction experience is necessary. There's also a free GED preparation class beginning in June, for which citizenship is not a requirement. Sign up for one or both at the Department of Environmental Protection office at 3660 Jerome Ave., Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (718) 231-8470.
