Report: Sexual Harassment Suit Expected to be Filed Against Councilman Andy King

By DAVID CRUZ

Councilman Andy King, the north Bronx legislator known for his flamboyance, is expected to be sued for sexual harassment, according to a published report.

The complaint reported by Capital New York alleges that King unlawfully terminated a female staffer from the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus who rebuffed his sexual advances. King serves as the Caucus’ chairman.

King, who is married, has represented the 12th Council District since 2012. He won the seat in a special election after his predecessor, Councilman Larry Seabrook, was found guilty of mail fraud and conspiracy. King has gained plenty of popularity throughout his tenure as Councilman, consistently churning out good turnout for events he sponsors and organizes.

King’s office did not comment on the allegations. A spokeswoman for King deferred comment to the New York City Council. Amy Varghese, a spokeswoman for the Council said aid it could not “comment yet on the allegations because the Council has not yet been served with a lawsuit.”

“The Council is committed to a workplace free of harassment and Council employees are trained and encouraged to report any allegations of harassment through our Equal Employment Opportunity program,” said Varghese in a statement.
