Westchester County Police have arrested a Queens man they say led police on a high-speed chase that began in Mount Vernon, into Yonkers, and ended in The Bronx.
Kieran O’Leary, public information officer for the Westchester County Police Department, told Norwood News the incident began at 9.27 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when a police officer observed a Nissan Altima traveling at high speed on the northbound Bronx River Parkway at Oak Street in Mount Vernon.
O’Leary said the driver refused to stop, and struck two vehicles during the pursuit. “Our officers boxed the Altima in at a construction zone near The Bronx-Westchester border,” he said. “The driver rammed one of our patrol cars and then drove off again, striking the arm of one of our officers who had to jump out of the way.”
O’Leary said the pursuit ended at East Gun Hill Road [on the Norwood/Williamsbridge border] when the driver fled from the parkway on foot towards Webster Avenue. He said NYPD officers, as well as a K-9 unit and aviation, assisted with the search of the suspect who was located inside of 3580 Webster Avenue in Norwood and taken into custody without further incident.
Westchester County Police arrested Bryan Daney, 22, of East 229th Street in Queens and said he was charged with reckless endangerment,
assault, criminal mischief, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. O’Leary also said that Daney was issued multiple summons’ for violations of vehicle and traffic law.
Daney is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
