Christmas came early for Norwood News readers as we published a day in advance of the holiday!  As is the case every year, the Norwood News looked back on 2013 with our annual Year in Review, with former NN Editor-in-Chief Alex Kratz reminding us who was naughty and nice.  Mr. Kratz also offers his ode to our very own Judy Noy, proofreading maven who’s been with the paper since the beginning.

With another year in the history books, there’s once again another setback for the problem-plagued Croton Water Filtration Plant.  Check out the story from contributor Hayley Camacho.

And finally as we look ahead to 2014, Bronxites can expects hearings over the design rationale to the NYPD’s newly-released Crime Map, detailing where crime has happened in your neighborhood.  Critics have blasted the look of the site, with Councilman Fernando Cabrera, who drafted the bill, vowing to get to the bottom of it.  So stay tuned.

All the other Norwood News goodies are in this edition, so take a look at Out & About and Neighborhood Notes to stay in the know.   So read up on the goings-on in your neck of the woods.  Here’s to an exciting year ahead!

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
