Pressure Campaign Leads to On-Site Super at Bedford Park Manor

After mounting pressure on the owner of 2985, 2987, and 2999 Webster avenues to provide an on-site super, tenants will have one within the next 30 days, according to an email announcement by the Stagg Group, which owns the properties.

In a growing list of complaints by tenants against the Stagg Group, many of them revolved around the lack of an on-site super to attend to maintenance and repair issues in a timely manner, the announcement by the Stagg Group addresses the issue directly.  “It is our goal that with a live-in super, your apartment repairs will be tended to expeditiously,” the email stated.  Tenants without email access received a memo March 15 confirming the news.

The Bedford Park Manor opened in 2015 as the first affordable housing property following the 2011 rezoning of Webster Avenue. The rezoning was intended to usher affordable housing.

At the last Community Board 7 Housing, Land Use, & Zoning Committee meeting on March 12, Stagg representatives heard harsh words from members reminding them that they needed to provide an on-site super given the size of the three properties comprising The Bedford Park Manor complex.

As the leading voice in organizing tenants’ complaints, Zxavier Simpson is glad to hear about the announcement.  “I’m happy for it. I’m going to be open to what’s going on,” said Simpson in a telephone interview with the Norwood News.  But he admits that the on-site super is just a first step.  “We still have to watch them [The Stagg Group].  We have to make sure they keep their promises,” he added.

Tenants of the Bedford Park Manor agreed to update the housing committee at the May meeting with a progress report.
