With COVID-19 cases spiking in New York City, Part of the Solution (POTS) soup kitchen and food pantry recently partnered with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and NYC Health+Hospitals to become a distribution center for 5,800 COVID tests to ensure they were accessible to low-income families during the holidays.

The tests were distributed to those clients who had onsite appointments at the center for any of the comprehensive and personalized services POTS regularly provides to Bronxites to fight poverty and hunger in the borough.

Some of the free services available at POTS´ facilities at 2759 Webster Avenue include showers, mail collection, a food pantry, a community kitchen, guidance with applications to obtain public benefits and legal services to support those in need of housing and income stability, among other services.

As reported, for the 25th consecutive year, volunteers with Part of the Solution (POTS) and the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York, joined forces to serve an estimated 350 turkey meals on site to Bronxites at Our Lady of Refuge Church, located at 290 East 196th Street in Fordham Manor on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, and did so once again on Christmas Day.

In the context of the test kit distribution on Dec. 23, POTS officials tweeted, “Just in time for holiday gatherings, POTS was able to distribute COVID tests today to the Bronx community it serves. Thank you to @NYCHealthSystem and @NYCImmigrants for making this possible! #partofthesolution #covidtest
