Police are looking for the gunman who fired one shot into the back of a man who fled his assailants and collapsed outside of Devoe Park.

Officers from the 52nd Precinct were called to the side entrance of Devoe Park, at University Avenue and West Fordham Road at 9:21 a.m. on Dec. 20 when they found a man lying on the ground.

The victim, later identified as Albendris Nunez, 22, of the Hudson Heights section of Manhattan, was “unconscious and unresponsive” and rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Police officials say that Nunez was shot by his assailant closer to Father Zeiser Place and the victim collapsed closer to West Fordham Road.

One witness who declined to be identified, recalled, “I hear the two guys running… He got shot somewhere else and he collapsed there.” The witness confirmed seeing two male suspects run north on University Avenue.

The witnesses added, “I got there right away, but he was dead.”

A cell phone photo from the scene obtained by the Norwood News shows a paramedic giving CPR to the victim, who was bleeding from the mouth.

Police refused to comment on one broadcast report that stated that on Dec 11, Nunez had pleaded guilty to felony drug possession charges stemming from a 2013 drug-selling arrest and was awaiting sentencing.

Nunez became the first homicide at Devoe Park since the April, 2011 double homicide of Edwin Liz, 17, and Allan Matos, 22, who were shot to death after a dispute on the basketball courts.

Yenfri Ramirez, 21, plead guilty and is serving a 44-year sentence in that crime.

NYPD CompStat records show that the 52nd Precinct had so far recorded ten homicides, compared with  just seven killings for the same time period last year. Nunez becomes the 11th murder in the command in 2015.
