Residents of Pelham Parkway say a man visiting “the old neighborhood” was shot and killed as he exited a Halloween party on Barnes Avenue in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx on Sunday morning.

According to police, the as-yet-unidentified, 36-year-old man was shot in the neck and chest outside of 2143 Barnes Avenue at 1:43 a.m. in the 49th precinct on Sunday, Nov. 1. He was found unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived at the scene.

EMS also responded to the incident and the victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Police said there have been no arrests and no description of a suspect is available. The identity of the victim is pending family notification and the investigation is ongoing.

Residents of Barnes Avenue said they knew the victim by either his first name or his nickname (which Norwood News will withhold until the family have been notified) and said he was just visiting “the old neighborhood.” Some reported he had attended a Halloween party on the block the night before. The victim was shot outside a section of the street with several new, still-vacant stores, across the street from the Pelham Parkway-Van Nest public library.

A friend of the victim who spoke with Norwood News, and who preferred not to be identified, looked out at the spot where the shooting took place and said, “He was a good guy and he liked to fight, but now this new generation.. with all these guns…” The friend then asked, “Where are they coming from, because they’re everywhere?”

The friend said the victim had recently gone viral with a video of one of his street fights on the website, World Star Hip Hop. Though there is no clear explanation as to the purpose of the site, it appears to accept video submissions from the public. The friend speculated on a possible reason for the shooting, suggesting it may have been the result of a challenge or a fight.

“It was him [the victim] over a fight, or him [the victim] wanting to fight someone, and them not wanting to [fist] fight,” with the victim. The friend surmised that whoever killed the victim may have preferred to use a handgun instead of physically fighting him.

Of the recent viral video, the friend said, “I’m watching it, and it looked like my old neighborhood, and as I look more, I see [victim’s nickname] having a fight, and he’s demolishing the guy.”

Speaking later with two other men, the friend and the other two men recalled a seemingly similar incident involving another friend of theirs, who they identified using only a nickname. Norwood News is withholding this nickname until the family of the latest victim has been notified of his death. The first friend said, “[Nickname of second deceased friend] is another guy who liked to fight, and he got murdered.” The men said that deadly encounter took place earlier this year on Cruger Avenue in the Bronx.

HE WAS A FRIEND WHO BECAME FAMILY BECAUSE WE SAW THROUGH THE HUSTLE AND ” STREET” AKA SURVIVAL ANTICS. THAT MODE WAS ALWAYS LEFT AT THE DOOR WHEN HE WAS AROUND. ANYONE WHO KNEW HIM KNOWS THAT HE WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT SOME VIDEO POSTED SHOWED… REST EASY BROTHER.

A “great guy” bullying other people into fighting when they didn’t want to just to show off on Wolrdstarhiphop?
He got hit with karma. This is a good neighborhood, but some wanna act like this is Mount Eden, if you like it so much down there move there, but get the hell out of here. Like all the scum always hanging on Cruger and all these garbage individuals drawing all the crackheads they supply on Lydig.
They are slowly but surely getting rid of section 8 tenants, give it 5 years and it will be clear of all that garbage.
