A reward of up to $10,000 is been offered to the public for their help with a murder investigation, following an incident in Pelham Gardens which left a 91-year-old man dead.
Police responded to a 911 call regarding a robbery at 2400 Wicham Avenue in Pelham Gardens, in the 49th precinct, on Tuesday Aug. 3, at approximately 12.34 in the afternoon. Upon arrival, police discovered a 91-year-old male victim in the garage, unconscious and responsive with injuries to the head.
EMS also responded and pronounced the victim deceased.
The deceased has been identified as Nicholas Rappa of 2400 Wicham Avenue in the Bronx, NY.
On Wednesday, Aug. 4, the New York City Police Department issued an appeal, seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the whereabouts of an individual who is sought for questioning in connection to the investigation, which has been classified a homicide.
The individual in question was described as a man in his 30s, with a thin build and who was light-skinned. He was last seen wearing a reflective traffic vest, dark pants with reflective strips, a yellow hard hat and hard sneakers.
Police circulated surveillance video and photos of the individual in question and of a white truck which were obtained from the vicinity of the incident prior to its occurrence.
On Thursday, Aug. 5, police confirmed that a combined reward of up to $10,000 was being offered to anyone who could assist with the investigation. Up to $3,500 is payable by CrimeStoppers upon arrest and indictment of the suspect, and $6,500 is payable by the NYPD upon arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the incident.
On Monday, Aug. 9, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the NYPD confirmed that Luis Bonilla, 32, of East 197th Street in the Bronx was arrested and charged that day at 9.50 a.m. in the 49th precinct. He was charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery and assault.
A person arrested and accused of a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
