Three people have been hospitalized, including two cops, and all are in stable condition according to police after a two-vehicle morning collision in the Pelham Bay section of The Bronx.
An NYPD spokesperson said the incident occurred at around 10.15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Westchester Avenue and Roberts Avenue. Asked if it was a head-on collision or perhaps a car chase, a police spokesperson said, “They [police] were responding to a call and they were T-boned [a head-on crash into the side of another vehicle].”
One photo of the scene posted to the Citizens’ App showed one badly damaged, marked police vehicle facing a pillar holding up the elevated subway tracks. The spokesperson said all three victims suffered what were referred to as minor injuries. The age and gender of each was unknown.
He said they were all transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition. “One of the officers has a broken leg and the other one, a minor head concussion,” the spokesperson said. “There’s nothing listed for his condition,” he said, in reference to the civilian driver.
When collisions occur, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such accidents.
