State Plays Role in Guard Shift

The key to progress on the Kingsbridge Armory's redevelopment appears to now reside with the state. While the city's Economic Development Corporation (EDC) technically oversees the development, advocates are now pressuring state officials to find a suitable location for the Armory's two remaining National Guard units.

It's back to the drawing board for those looking to relocate the Kingsbridge Armory's remaining National Guard units, a final stumbling block for moving the long-delayed redevelopment project forward.

It appears that there is one final hitch in getting things going on the redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory. For the project to include schools, the National Guard units that occupy the buildings on the northern perimeter of the facility need to find another home.

Gibson delivered her 2nd Annual State of the Borough Address at Cardinal Hayes High School in the auditorium named after Bronx legend and Bronx Walk of Fame inductee Regis Philbin, on April 18, 2024. The borough president outlined major accomplishments that include an investment of over $35 million in education and over $8.9 million in capital allocations to public and private health facilities.
