Espaillat, Ocasio-Cortez Introduce Temporary Protected Status for Ecuador Act

Bronx Congressional Reps. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), along with nine other original cosponsors, introduced the Temporary Protected Status for Ecuador Act (H.R. 7371) to the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday, Feb. 26. The bill, if passed, would grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to over 300,000 Ecuadorians in the U.S. who have fled the current mass outbreak of gang-related violence in Ecuador to seek safety for their families.

It was Halloween [Oct. 31] and you could pretty much cut the atmosphere with a knife by the end of the BronxNet debate held between the two candidates running in the upcoming general election on Nov. 7 in City Council District 13. Moderator extraordinaire Gary Axelbank had his work cut out for him as he tried to sign off during the recording of the debate at BronxNet's Lehman College studio in Bedford Park, while Democratic incumbent City Council Member Marjorie Velázquez and Republican and Conservative candidate Kristy Marmorato continued to talk over one other, each with allegations of nepotism.

The Bronx Anti-War Coalition held a second rally in The Bronx on Tuesday, Oct. 24, to call for a cessation of the bombing of Gaza, after tensions escalated severely in the Middle East following a Hamas terrorist attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, and Israel’s subsequent bombing and ground invasion preparation of Gaza.

UPDATE Dinowitz, Hochul, Others Denounce Rally in Support of Palestinians following Terrorist Attack on Israel

Jewish Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), who represents many of the Jewish communities based in the northwest Bronx, and New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul have denounced a planned rally on Sunday, Oct. 8, in Times Square organized by the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. The rally comes a day after the Associated Press and various other media outlets reported that the Hamas militant group said it was holding “dozens” of Israeli soldiers captive in the Gaza Strip.
