Boogie on the Boulevard 

The public is invited to take part in a day of free music, and art and fitness programs in the center lanes of the Grand Concourse starting at 162nd Street which will be closed to vehicular traffic, from noon to 4 p.m., May 29, June 26, July 31, and Aug. 28. Activities include biking, bollywood classes, button making, face painting, skating, street games, yoga, zumba, and more. Main stage performances are at 165h Street (call for detailed schedule). Community Action for Safe Apartments (CASA) presents Bronx film screening, “Gentrification and Saving Homes,” May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Settlement Community Center, 1501 Jerome Ave., followed by a discussion with CASA leaders and other community members. The public is invited to “Relay Brings the Payne” Flag Football Fundraiser, June 4 at Clinton H.S., 100 W. Mosholu Pkwy. So. Relay for Life, a walk for cancer, will take place at Clinton H.S., 100 W. Mosholu Pkwy. Two workshops, both at 3400 Bainbridge Ave. in the Medical Arts Pavilion on the 2nd floor, The Kidneys and How They Work, to learn about kidney disease, medications and nutrition, will be held on June 2 and 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Treatment Options for Kidney Failure, about hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, and supportive care, will be held on May 26, June 23 and July 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. A diabetes workshop will be held at 2532 Grand Concourse in the 3rd floor conference room on June 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. All events are free and hosted by Montefiore Health System. Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Fish Theatres and Life Inside Our River, to create maps and images of river residents, then create a diorama with movable parts, May 28 and 29; and Soil Searching, to draw and stain with soil, watercolors and other mixed media, June 4 and 5; both in WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grounds admission is free until noon Saturdays and Tuesdays all year. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
