The public is invited to attend Summerstage, a variety of free performances, all at 10:30 a.m., presented by City Parks Foundation, in city parks (schedule is subject to change):

Fordham Road BID presents Fordham Film Festival, at Bryan Park, East Fordham and East Kingsbridge roads. Events begin at 5 p.m. and include music, games and activities, and films begin at 8:30 p.m. July 22: “Roger Rabbit.” For more information, visit fordhamroad.nyc.

The Catholic Protectory – Parkchester Walk Tour, Saturday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m. Visit historic Parkchester, once the country’s largest housing development, with an eye to the colorful history of its predecessor the New York Catholic Protectory. Established through the efforts of legendary Fordham University founder, Archbishop “Dagger John” Hughes, and directed by the intriguing Dr. L. Silliman Ives, this picturesque mix of farmland and Victorian architecture served as a combination orphanage/reform school until it disappeared in the late 1930s. Nestor Danyluk, BCHS tour guide, will tour start this tour at Virginia Park, one block south from the #6 train Parkchester station. Take Bronx buses #4, #4A, BxM6, #36, #39, and Q44.

Tour costs $10 for BCHS members, $20 for non-members. Contact The Society at (718) 881-8900 to reserve your spot. The tours generally run about 2 hours.

Montefiore Health System will hold a free workshop at 3400 Bainbridge Ave. in the Medical Arts Pavilion on the 2nd floor: Treatment Options for Kidney Failure, about hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, and supportive care, July 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information, call (800) MD-MONTE.

Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Nature’s Canvas Bag, to create a leafy impression on an everyday canvas bag to take anywhere, July 9 and 10; and Pop-In Landscape, to make landscape collages out of cracker wrappers, July 16 and 17; both in WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also scheduled is The Four Bags, performing chamber music, July 13, and Hilliard Greene & the Jazz Expressions, quintet performing jazz, rock, blues and R&B; both from 7 to 8 p.m. on the Great Lawn. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
