Family Fitness Festival
The public is invited to a Family Fitness Festival at the Williamsbridge Oval Park on June 22 from noon to 2:30 p.m. Events include games, yoga, Zumba, fun activities, health workshops, arts & crafts, gifts and prizes (while supplies last), and healthy foods and snacks. Onstage
The NY Botanical Garden hosts a free musical event, June 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. featuring host Samba Timba and various artists performing Brazilian and Caribbean sounds. For more information, call (212) 843-9342.

JASA Van Cortlandt Senior Center, 3880 Sedgwick Ave. hosts classical piano concert, June 14, and music program, June 18, featuring Interactive Chinese Dance Performance and ethnic musicians, both at 1 p.m. For more information, call (718) 549-4700.

Bronx Fathers Taking Action & Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. present Family Day Olympiad, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Williamsbridge Oval. An adult and child age 6 to 16 play together in an Olympic style event for a chance to win the Bronx Gold Cup. For more information, call (718) 590-6012.

The East 204th Street/Bainbridge Avenue Merchants Association is hosting a Weekend Walk on June 8 and 15 from 12 to 4 p.m. on East 204th Street between Bainbridge and Decatur Avenues. There will be games, music, hay rides, giveaways, and a smokehouse.

VIP Community Services is hosting a Spring Fling Community Resource Fair on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1870 Crotona Ave. Music and food will be available and a free raffle will be drawn.

The 52nd Precinct Community Council hosts its annual Open House on June 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the precinct, 3016 Webster Ave. Games, food, and music will be on hand. Bronx Outreach Division & 48th Precinct Community Council present a My Father and Me Event, June 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grand Slam Banquet Hall, 478 E. Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Project: Metamorphosis Mobiles, to create mobiles using clay, recyclables and natural materials, and learn about frogs and toads, June 8 and 9; and Pollinator’s Paper Lanterns, June 15 and 16, to learn about pollination, make lanterns with paper-maché and create a humming bird, bat or butterfly; both in the WH House, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also scheduled is Nature Presentation: Fantastic Frogs and Terrific Toads, June 9 at noon and 1:30 p.m.; and Open Aviary, to see and learn about a giant beehive, June 15 and 16 (meet in the WH House at 10 a.m.). Exhibits
NY Botanical Garden presents its largest exhibition ever, Brazilian Modern: The Living Art of Roberto Burle Marx, June 8 through Sept. 29, featuring lush gardens with a curated gallery of his vibrant paintings, drawings and textiles. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
