Join the staff of the Van Cortlandt Library for a fun, virtual game of trivia. Each month, the library staff play a trivia game based on a different category/theme and provide book recommendations based on the categories. The theme for May will be “Pop Culture: 90s Edition,” and the game will take place on May 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Boost your knowledge, meet others, and get to know them! Do you want to take part in a virtual yoga class? Then join “Full Body Stretch with Darlene Carr,” on Friday, April 30, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stretching will increase flexibility and prevent injury. Stretch exercises allow for greater freedom of movement and improve posture. It also increases physical and mental relaxation. A yoga mat and yoga strap are needed for the activity. Art

Interested in learning about how working with art can help you cope through difficult times? Join the Bronx Museum of the Arts on April 29, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for “What Does Art Do for You? A Youth-Centered Conversation About Art and Possibility.” This youth-centered, panel conversation will bring together members of the Bronx Museum Teen Council and Recess: Assembly Peer Leaders to discuss how an arts practice helps us think and move with and through hope, struggle, and despair. Moderated by artist and assembly co-founder, Shaun Leonardo, the panelists, representing youth of different ages, will share their lived experiences and explore the possibilities of art. Music

New York Opera Festival: Bronx Opera will take place from May 8 to August 29, 2021. Bronx Opera and BronxNet Community Cable present “Sunday Night at the Opera.” Each Sunday, at 7 p.m. EST (beginning May 16), Bronx Opera will present a production from BronxNet’s vault, and will add pre-show intros and intermission interviews with the cast and staff of each show. Movement

To kick off the City Nature Challenge, join NYC Parks on April 30, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for a hike around Van Cortlandt Park, to view and make observations of the wonderfully diverse spring ephemerals on the western side of the park. Participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early and to wear a face mask. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. Registrants are encouraged to download the “iNaturalist” app onto their mobile device, prior to the event for an interactive experience. Shape up NYC presents “Whine” fitness (aerobic dance fitness) for teens, adults, and seniors each Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., from April 16 to June 30, at Williamsbridge Oval Park. Join this Carnival-style workout, with easytofollow dance moves, and let the bass-driven music move you. Memorable time guaranteed! For everyone’s safety, participants and instructors should wear a face covering and maintain social distancing of 10 feet during class. Wash your hands frequently and stay home, if sick. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
