Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Eco Fair, to make new items out of used materials, April 4 and 5; and A Nest for Song Birds, to make a giant outdoor bird’s nest from NYBG materials, April 11 (followed by Owl Pellet Dissection, to learn about food that owls regurgitate (2 to 4 p.m.) and April 12; all in WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also offered are Drop-In Science Explorations (for ages 5 to 10): Shells and Feathers, to learn about eggs and feathers, April 7; Bird Calls, to learn about birds’ voice boxes, April 8; Fasten Seatbelts!, to learn about birds in flight, and make paper airplanes, April 9; all on the grounds, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Additional events include: Live Bird Demonstrations: to see live birds up close, April 11 at 2 p.m. on the grounds; and Brasil Guitar Duo, concert, April 12 at 2 p.m. in the WH House (tickets are $28; $15/ages 8 to 18; $22/WH member; $12/WH member child; registration required online at www.wavehill.org or at the Perkins Visitor Center). Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
