The NYPD said a 41-year-old man from Norwood was arrested following an apparent unprovoked assault on a 16-year-old girl in Olinville in which she was slashed in the face.
As reported, police had been appealing to the public for help identifying the person seen in the attached photos and video who they said was sought in connection to the slashing.
Police said that on Friday, Jan. 12, at around 4 p.m. in front of 3777 White Plains Road, the girl was walking on the sidewalk when she was approached by a male individual unknown to her. They said the person slashed the girl in her face, causing serious physical injury.
Police said the victim was transported by EMS to Jacobi Medical Center in Morris Park in serious but stable condition, and that the suspect fled the location on foot in a southbound direction on White Plains Road, and then westbound on East 216th Street.
On Friday, Jan. 19, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said Joshua Lawyer, 41, of 3560 Webster Avenue in The Bronx was arrested the same day. They said he was charged with two counts of assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
