A 40-year-old, off-duty, NYPD chaplain has been arrested in The Bronx for “patronizing prostitution” police said.

Police said that on Friday, Feb. 28, at 11.23 a.m. the off-duty NYPD employee, Michael Eguino, was arrested and charged within the confines of the 49th Precinct, which covers the Bronx neighborhoods of Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, Pelham Parkway, Eastchester Gardens, and Pelham Gardens.

Eguino was charged with paying for sex. Norwood News has reached out to the NYPD for more information on the age of the person who was paid for sex, as well as Eguino’s employment location i.e. the NYPD precinct, and will share any additional details we receive.

We have also reached out to the Bronx District Attorney’s office for additional information and will share any updates we receive.

Eguino is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

An off-duty, auxiliary police officer was also arrested for criminal mischief in the 49th Precinct on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2024, as reported.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
