Rose Margaret Moran, long-time Bronx resident of Decatur Avenue in Norwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at the age of 90. Born on July 20, 1931, she was the daughter of James Moran and Ellen (Neville) Moran.

Rose was the epitome of the song, “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” As a young girl, she traveled with her mother and younger sister, Mary, by steam liner back to the family farm in Ireland. They lived there for a year, learning the culture and heritage from her beloved grandparents.

Rose taught elementary and middle school for nearly forty years in The Bronx, and loved it. The family historian throughout her life, Rose would enrapture her adoring siblings, nieces and nephews with her stories about life, family lineage, travels, and her infinite stories from the classroom.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and an integral part of St. Brendan’s parish in Norwood, attending mass daily. She served as a lector, sang in the choir, taught CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine), and led fundraising and blood drive efforts for the church.

While Rose spent her last few years living in Connecticut, New York, and specifically, The Bronx, was always her home and an intrinsic part of her identity.

Rose is survived by her siblings; Mary Agnes Clark, Ellen Flannery and James Moran; her brother-in-law, James; sister-in-law, Mary; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Rose’s wake takes place Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McKeon Funeral Home, located at 3129 Perry Avenue, The Bronx, NY 10467.

Rose Moran was a beloved matriarch and will be profoundly missed.

Ellen Mary Lawrence of Vermont is a niece of the late Rose Margaret Moran.
