The NYPD released on Thursday, Feb. 24, body-worn camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 30, 2020, in the 48th precinct, which encompasses Belmont, East Tremont, and West Farms. Fordham University’s Bronx campus is located in the precinct’s northern corner, Arthur Avenue runs down the center, and the Cross Bronx Expressway and Crotona Park form the precinct’s southern border.
Department officials said the video includes the available evidence leading up to the incident as well as during the incident, and released the video for clear viewing of the totality of the incident.
According to the NYPD, patrol officers are equipped with body-worn cameras, the benefits of which, the agency said, are clear: transparency into police activity, de-escalation of police encounters and accountability for police officers, through an independent account of interactions between the police and the citizens they serve.
Agency officials said body-worn cameras serve as a vital part of ongoing efforts to increase trust between the police and all New Yorkers.
