Ahead of the festive season, The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) premiered, on Nov. 12, its annual Holiday Train Show, a winter wonderland exhibit of miniature trains riding around miniature replicas of some of New York City’s most iconic landmarks.
The 25 electric-model trains zoom through nearly 200 New York City landmarks including Yankee Stadium, Grand Central Station, and the Statue of Liberty. These landmarks are hand-made out of twigs, bark, leaves, berries, and more by the team at Applied Imagination. Some trains even zoom along the intricate tracks on overhead bridges.
Jennifer Bernstein, NYBG CEO, said of the exhibit, “It is a winter wonderland unlike any other, where cherished seasonal traditions find a home in our absolutely enchanting train displays by day or by night.” She continued, “We look forward to welcoming visitors as they recall cherished memories and traditions or create new ones that last a lifetime.”
According to NYBG, these landmarks can take hundreds of hours to complete. The latest landmark to be added to the display this year is the Hearst Tower. NYBG hosts Holiday Train Nights, with ten nights targeted at adults aged 21 or over, filled with music, food, and more. Those remaining nights are Nov. 29, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 13, Dec. 14, and Dec. 28, 2024, and Jan. 4, Jan. 11, and Jan. 18, 2025.
The other six nights are targeted at all ages with hands-on activities for everyone to take part in. These take place on Dec. 20, Dec. 21, Dec. 22, Dec. 23, Dec. 26. and Dec. 27. The Holiday Train Show will run through Jan. 20, 2025. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
