A woman was assaulted and robbed of a very large amount of cash while she was seated inside her car with a friend in Norwood on Monday afternoon, May 6, police said. A 41-year-old woman was later arrested in connection with the incident.

Police said the incident occurred some time after noon on Monday, May 6, in front of 3053 Hull Avenue. “It came up with an assault with a knife,” a police spokeswoman told Norwood News, referring to the police report. “So basically what’s on the report is it’s a robbery in progress. It states that the victim, a female, 30 years old, she was in a car with her friend when two unknown individuals approached her and struck the victim in the head with what she believes was a rock.”

Asked for clarification about whether the victim was still inside the car when she was hit with the rock and if the window was open or shut, the spokesperson said, “I don’t know if the window was open. It just says two unknown individuals with masks on approached them and struck the victim in the head.”

Asked if the victims’s car was parked when the incident happened (or in traffic), the spokeswoman said she guessed they were parked. “She was punched in the face and lip, and they removed $14,000 of cash from her,” the spokeswoman added.

Asked for confirmation that the thieves got away with the $14,000, the police spokesperson said, “Yes, they got it.” She added, “She was treated on scene. She didn’t go to hospital.”

We asked if there was any further description of the two masked perpetrators. The spokeswoman said, “Two masked individuals..They fled southbound on Hull Avenue in a black BMW, unknown plate.”

We mentioned that a post on the Citizens’ app had mentioned a black BMW X5 with Pennsylvania license plates reading HTW3485 in connection with the incident and asked if she could confirm the accuracy of this car plate description. “It doesn’t say the license plate so I can’t confirm,” she said.

She then added, “Actually, they got someone arrested. They arrested a 41-year-old female. I think she’s maybe one of them (the two masked individuals). She was arrested. She’s been charged with robbery and grand larceny.”

When contacted, the FDNY later said they received a call at around 12.15 p.m. for a report of a person stabbed at the location, and said a patient was treated/ assessed on scene but refused transportation to hospital.

We spoke to a number of residents from the block on Monday evening and all but three were unaware of the incident. One man who lived in 3053 Hull Avenue said his sister had told him the robbery had indeed taken place, but added he, himself, had not seen it.

Two female residents of the neighborhood also spoke to us in more depth about it. “This morning, like around 12, somebody called us that we know and they told us that somebody was stabbed and that it was two girls.” one of the female residents said. “We came downstairs and when we came upstairs, a friend.. and my brother-in-law, because we live in the same building, they told us that there was a girl talking to the detectives.”

The resident went on to say that she then asked another lady who was at the scene before her what had happened, and the other woman told her there had been a robbery. “He was trying to rob the two girls in a black car, and one of the girls got stabbed. That’s all I know, but I don’t know anything else…. if it was true or what really went wrong,” she said.

The resident added, “But the cops were here, right here in this area.” Asked if she had taken any photos, she said she had not. Explaining that she lived in a building close by, the resident then added, “That’s why I came running because I was concerned, because we live in the neighborhood.”

In reference to the perpetrator’s vehicle, she said, “I heard the car was black and it had no plates, so you never know?” When we informed the two residents that police said there were two people involved but that one had been arrested, one of the two women said, “Oh thank God! That’s what one lady told me – that it was two guys in the car and they just ran. Like once they stabbed the girl, they left.”
