Norwood: Second Double Shooting Reported near East Gun Hill Road

For the second time in a little over five weeks, two men were shot near East Gun Hill Road in Norwood and once again, police are searching for the gunman responsible.

 

According to Detective Annette Shelton, the shooting took place outside of 3511 Hull Avenue, between East Gun Hill Road and East 211 Street, and was reported at 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29.

 

Shelton stated, “Two 24 year-old males were shot in the back by an unidentified individual who fled eastbound on East Gun Hill Road.” A Citizens App video shows both men being placed on a stretcher and taken to a waiting ambulance.

Shelton stated that the two victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, their conditions were not thought to be life-threatening, and added that no arrests have been made and the investigation remains, “active and ongoing.”

 

Asked about the double shooting reported on May 23 outside of East Gun Hill Road, Shelton replied, saying no arrests had been made in that case, and the investigation also remains, “active and ongoing.”

 

As reported, the earlier shooting took place on the sidewalk outside 275 East Gun Hill Road, a six-story, occupied apartment building between Putnam Place and Perry Avenue in Norwood at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 23. Police were looking for the gunman who opened fire on two men as they walked along the road, located in the 52nd precinct.

 

On Monday, June 28, District 14 City Council Member and Bronx borough president candidate, Fernando Cabrera, called for a  decisive response to the most recent uptick in gun violence in New York City, calling on anyone with information on the recent shooting of innocent tourist to notify authorities immediately.

The shooting took place on Sunday, June 27, in Times Square, when a 21-year-old marine was shot, as reported by ABC News.
He and is in a stable condition, having been removed that day to Bellevue Hospital Center.

“The escalation of gun violence in our city concerns me greatly,” said Cabrera. “The most recent shooting incident of an innocent tourist in Times Square only serves to magnify the need for an immediate and decisive response on the part of city government,” he said.

 

As reported, a number of events, including a recent gun buyback event organized by the Bronx D.A.’s office, are being held throughout the Bronx and the City to mark Gun Violence Awareness Month, while the month of May saw a 271 percent increase in shooting victims.
