The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the people seen in the attached image who they say are sought in connection to a robbery that occurred in Norwood.
Police said that on Sunday, Jan. 28, at around 3 a.m., a 42-year-old male victim was in the vicinity of 3599 Bainbridge Avenue when five as-yet unidentified males approached him. They said the group, acting in concert, pushed the victim to the ground and stole his wallet and sneakers. They said the five then fled on foot, southbound on Bainbridge Avenue. “The victim sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention on scene,” a police spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Feb. 8, police said at around 12.41 p.m. at 3320 Reservoir East (by the Williamsbridge Oval, in Norwood) police received a 911 call from a person who said a trespasser broke into the living room window of her apartment at the residential building.
Police said it seems the resident was out of the country at the time of the break-in and may have seen the trespasser enter the apartment on a security camera.
They said officers intercepted the male trespasser and added that the victim told them the person who broke in was not allowed to be there. They said no property was removed and the female resident declined to press charges.
We asked the police press office if the trespasser was known to the victim and they said this was not clear.
A short video taken by another resident of the building, who declined to be identified, showing the police investigating the incident can be seen here.
The following evening, Feb. 9, at around 7 p.m., around four separate police vehicles were seen patrolling the Williamsbridge Oval after dark. One middle-aged man who was in the park walking his dog on Friday evening told Norwood News he had noticed additional police presence in the park since Monday, Feb. 5, after dark.
The man said similar police patrol units were seen in and around Van Cortlandt Park. Norwood News contacted the NYPD on Friday night to ask if there was a particular reason for the extra police presence in the Oval on Friday and an NYPD spokesperson said that they could not really say what the reason was but that he had no record of any specific incident in the Oval at that time.
As reported, following a spate of connected robberies carried out by scooter riders over the last year, the NYPD announced on Monday, Feb. 5, that it had carried out an early morning raid that morning on an apartment at the NYCHA Parkside Housing Project in Allerton.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Edward Caban joined other members of the NYPD at a joint press conference held at NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza to announce that nine people had been charged in the context of an elaborate cellphone robbery pattern with international criminal links. Many of the robberies had been carried out by scooter riders they said.
Major crimes recorded in the 52nd Precinct, where both referenced incidents occurred, both for the 28-day period ending Feb. 4, 2024, and year-to-date are attached.
The precinct covers some or all of the neighborhoods of Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bronx Park, and University Heights.
