Police said a 69-year-old man has been arrested on various charges, including attempted murder, following a shooting in a residential building on East Gun Hill Road in Norwood last weekend, as reported.
An NYPD spokesperson said that on Sunday, April 16, at around 3.20 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired inside of 234 East Gun Hill Road on the 3rd floor. They said that upon arrival, officers from the 52nd Precinct were informed that a 69-year-old man had exited apartment #3K, pointed a firearm into apartment #3J, stating, “I will kill you” and discharged one round, striking the wall inside the apartment.
Police said no person was struck or injured. “The suspect then re-entered apartment #3K,” the spokesperson said. Officers later arrested Bernard Bulla of 234 East Gun Hill Road at the scene and recovered a black firearm/handgun.
Bulla was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon (a loaded firearm) and reckless endangerment.
Norwood News had earlier interviewed some residents of the building and also a few local businesses in the area. However, nobody had any further information about what had happened and had not heard any shots fired or seen anything unusual.
A police emergency services unit arrived at the scene at one point and two officers were seen carrying what looked like a chainsaw and a emergency medical kit into the building.
One female resident of the building complex, which comprises 234 and 236 East Gun Hill Road, Maribel, said police were later seen on the third floor removing furniture from one of the apartments.
Users of the Citizens’ App had earlier reported on Sunday that a man had allegedly entered the building and had shot a man inside.
We asked the NYPD if there had been a break-in and the press team said they did not have any further details on the incident at the time. They later provided the update, as above.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
