Big thanks to some local Norwood residents in capturing the mega-snowstorm that produced close to a foot of snow in some parts of the Bronx. The white stuff began to fall at 9a.m. on January 22nd, picking up steadily as the hours went on. Subway service, flights, after school programs and just about everything was affected as snow blanketed the area. With little to no recourse, Norwood residents fished out their cameras to record some interesting pictures of their favorite neighborhood spot—The Williamsbridge Oval Park.
A snowy collage is incomplete without several photos of the esteemed Williamsbridge Oval Park. We begin with how the day began–a steady sleet of snow starting just before 9a.m. Photo courtesy of Norwood News Editor-in-Chief David Cruz.
Here photographer and Friends of the Williamsbridge Oval organizer Elisabeth Von Uhl grabbed this ghostly shot of the Oval, which she later dubbed “Snowy Reservoir.” No one dared to venture out to the Oval during the height of the snowstorm.
Except perhaps this bundled up Bronxite, spending a chilly moment at the Oval’s football field. Photo courtesy of Allison Melendez.
Meantime, the playgrounds at the Oval remain completely isolated as the evening hours settled in.
One month down, two more winter months to go! With the 2013-2014 winter season already shattering meteorological records, Norwood can once again expect another bone chilling snowstorm in the coming weeks.
