A 31-year-old man is in critical condition following a multiple shooting incident in the Norwood section of The Bronx.
A police representative said the incident occurred at around 5.56 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at Decatur Avenue and E 204th Street. “I have a male shot one time in the chest,” the spokeswoman said. “He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.”
“We are looking for a male, possibly in his 20s, who fled towards Webster Avenue [also in Norwood] in a gray Toyota,” the police spokesperson added.
A helicopter could be seen circling the area from around 6 a.m. on Monday morning, apparently searching for the shooter.
The window of a check cashers on the corner of Decatur Avenue and East 204th Street was seen smashed, apparently from gunfire, as a man who worked in a building nearby said it was intact before the incident. In the initial aftermath of the incident, the police spokesperson initially said there were multiple shots fired but that the victim had only been struck once.
However, as reported in the meantime, they later updated the incident report to say that the victim was struck in the back, chest, ear, and hand.
One resident who declined to be identified alleged that the victim was Puerto Rican and in his early 20s. However, when asked on Monday, police could not confirm this.
