A 21-year-old male motorcyclist has died following a motor vehicle collision, police said.
On Tuesday, Nov. 29, at around 5.32 p.m., officers from the 50th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding the vehicle collision at the intersection of Broadway and Caryle Avenue, near the north east corner of Van Cortlandt Park and the North Riverdale / Westchester County border.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 47-year-old man was driving a box truck and was making a U-turn at the location. While completing the turn, a 21-year-old man driving a motorcycle in the southbound Broadway lane collided into the truck. “The motorcyclist was ejected from his vehicle and sustained severe head trauma,” a police spokesperson said.
“EMS responded and transported the aided motorcyclist to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson added. The truck driver remained at the scene and did not sustain any injuries. The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
The identification of the deceased is pending family notification.
For road collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigations, while NYC Department of Transportation reviews the street design at the locations of such incidents.
