It’s still unclear what caused an apartment to go up in flames at a Bedford Park building, which sent tenants rushing out the building.

FDNY Captaion Dominic Caleri told the Norwood News the fire began at the fifth floor at 2701 Grand Concourse just before 2 p.m. Nine fire trucks rushed to the scene,

finding tenants waiting outside as crews knocked out the fire. One truck utilized its turntable ladder to reach the roof of the building to knock out the blaze. Caleri pointed out no one was in the apartment.

Tenants told the Norwood News the occupant of the building was at work. They also noted no fire alarms went off when the fire was first detected. Many simply alerted their neighbors about the fire.

More details will follow.

I am a tenant at this building and was shameful that our super was not even here to assist with this fire. Management didnt even come and see what occurred. They are never there in case of emergencies. This is the 3rd fire at this building in less than 5 years. There is no working fire alarms within the building. No camera viewing how these incidents happened.Tenants needed to knock on their neighbor’s door to alert them about this fire. Tenants needed to rush out of the building fearing the worst. Thank you to the FDNY for their rapid response as the fire was put out in less than 30 minutes. Apt 5C was completed destroy due to this multiple dwelling fire. The resident of the apartment (5C) was provided with suitable resources from their caring neighbors.
