New Temporary Bus Stops Installed in Norwood Due To Water Main Work

The MTA has temporarily set up new bus stops in Norwood, take effect today as crews continue its work to replace underground pipes.

Notices were emailed to community stakeholders alerting them to changes to the northbound Bx16, Bx34, and BxM4 bus stops. Commuters catching their bus at Bainbridge Avenue between East 212th Street and Jerome Avenue will now have to catch it on Jerome Avenue between East 212th Street and Jerome Avenue.

Crews with the city Department of Design & Construction (DDC) note the change is intended to “facilitate the installation of a 72-inch Trunk Water Main.”

The DDC also assures commuters that while these inconveniences take effect “emergency vehicles and pedestrian access” to the area closed off to buses “will be maintained at all times.” Also, gas, electric, and cable service will not be interrupted.

A notice by DDC says the regular bus stops should be back in place by April.

Editor’s Note: Anyone with questions or concerns can reach out to the DDC’s community construction liaison, Yoshabelle Desulme, at (718) 644-2065 or email bainbridgeprojectccl@gmail.com.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
