Bronx constituents of the 13th Congressional District now have a new district office location. Congressman Adriano Espaillat, whose coverage area also covers Norwood, has moved his Bronx office into the same location as his former colleague, state Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz at 3107 Kingsbridge Ave., just north of West 231st Street in Kingsbridge.
Since 2017, when he was sworn in, Espaillat’s Bronx district office was located at 2530 Grand Concourse inside what was originally known as the Dollar Savings Bank, near Fordham Road.
Renovation work inside the landmark building forced the congressman to find another location.
Espaillat said that the landmark status of the building made for an uncertain future as to when the work on his office on Grand Concourse would be finished. “We may be out of there for a significant period of time. So, we didn’t want to be out of the Bronx while that construction was going on,” said Espaillat. Dinowitz, who worked alongside Espaillat for 13 years in the Assembly, joined him for the opening.
The two lawmakers are hopeful that sharing the same office space will benefit their constituents, especially when there is about whether an issue is best handled by the city, state, or federal government.
“Rather than bounce from office to office [location], people will be able to cross from one room to the other,” Espaillat said referring to the benefits of a shared space.
When asked how long they would be sharing the space, the two-term congressman smiled and said, “I hope this a relationship without any divorce.”
