The 52nd Precinct has a new commanding officer, a month after the previous commanding officer hinted at potential changes. The change was effective at midnight, and made official on the precinct’s active Twitter account.
Deputy Inspector Thomas Alps is the new commanding officer of the Five-Two precinct, succeeding Inspector Peter Fiorillo. Fiorillo was commanding officer of the precinct for a little over two years, replacing Chief Nilda Hofmann.
According to the NYPD’s website, Alps was the commanding officer of the local 49th Precinct covering the East Bronx. Alps replaced Keith Walton, who was accused and vindicated in a case of official misconduct. It’s unclear whether Walton is going back to the precinct.
It’s unclear where Fiorillo is being transferred to. His departure comes after he was recently promoted to inspector.
Fiorillo leaves the precinct with major crime slightly up at 7.31 percent. Murder cases have caused the crime rate to spike this year at the precinct when compared to the same time period as last when the precinct saw two murders instead of the five it’s logged this year.
A formal announcement on the command change is expected at today’s 52nd Precinct Community Council meeting at Serviam Gardens at 7pm, weather permitting.
God Luck to DEPUTY INSPECTOR THOMAS ALPS…… GOOD MAN
GOOD C.O.
UR FRIEND SAL FROM THE BRONX
I can’t Believe our Deputy Inspector Alps left the 49th precinct for the 52nd precinct. We were doing so well for Pelham Parkway. Now that things are working out he leaves us.
Geez, much success but not cool you left just when we were doing great stuff for Pelham Parkway .
at least we still have Sgt Ryan. I will be so upset if he leaves too.
