Mass Vaccination Sites

All New York State mass vaccination sites are now open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first come first served basis. In addition, all vaccine providers are encouraged to allow walk-in appointments for eligible New Yorkers. People who would prefer to schedule an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination site can do so on the Am I Eligible App or call (877) 829-4692.

Home Vaccinations for 12-Year-Olds and Older

On June 23, 2021, the City confirmed that in-home COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to all New Yorkers aged 12 and older. More details are available at nyc.gov/homevaccine or by calling 877-829-4692.

COVID-19 Restrictions Lifted

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on June 15 that all COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted in New York State since 70 percent of adults in the State have received at least their first dose of the vaccine. However, just 45 percent of Bronx residents have received one dose of the vaccine, and only 39 percent of Bronxites are fully vaccinated, the lowest rate in the City.

With this policy change, retail, food services, offices, gyms and fitness centers, amusement and family entertainment, hair salons, barber shops and personal care services, among other commercial settings, may all return to normal operations. Unvaccinated individuals are expected to continue to wear a mask and comply with CDC guidelines. New York State health guidelines continue to be in effect for large-scale indoor event venues, pre-K to grade 12 schools, public transit, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and health care settings per CDC guidelines.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you. You can send e-mails to norwoodnews@norwoodnews.org or call us anytime (718) 324-4998.
