Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit
The Tenant Support Unit, offering tenant protection help, will be available in the Bronx at various dates and times: the Office of State Senator Gustavo Rivera at 2432 Grand Concourse from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 24; Office of Assemblyman Michael Blake, 780 Concourse Village West, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 24; and University Neighborhood Housing Program at 2715 Bainbridge Ave. from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 19. Fridays With Fernandez
Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez hosts a “Fridays With Fernandez” meet and greet on Sept. 13 and 27 from 12 to 3 p.m. at her office at 2018 Williamsbridge Rd. By appointment only. To make an appointment, call (718) 409-0109.

Friendly Visitor Program
RAIN senior centers across the Bronx are looking for volunteers to accompany the elderly for one hour per week for six months. Volunteers must be 18 years or older, be kind and compassionate, and interested in working with the senior population. Volunteers are subject to a background check. Free Paper Shredding Event
The Ridgewood Savings Bank branch at 1770 E. Gun Hill Rd. is hosting a free paper shredding event on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring sensitive documentation for shredding, including paper files, old bills, and cancelled checks. Community Resource Fair
Norwood seniors, tenants and homeowners are invited to this free event co-sponsored by University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP) and Legal Aid Society on Sept. 17 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, 3061 Bainbridge Ave. Learn about free housing, financial, legal and health services and information from eight non-profits and two city agencies. There will be a workshop by New York City Housing Preservation and Development about the affordable housing lottery. Contact UNHP at (718) 933-2539 to RSVP/partner, or for more information. Youth-led Farmers Market
The Norwood Youthmarket is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of East Gun Hill Road and De Kalb Avenue through Nov. 11. Cash, SNAP/EBT, debit/credit, FMNP checks, and Health Bucks are accepted.

Crime Victims Support
Crime Victims Support Services, a 501(c)3 group at 1138 Neill Ave., offers victims help in navigating the criminal justice system. Free confidential services include claim assistance, case follow-up, crisis counseling, and victim advocacy. The group accepts donations. For more information, call (718) 823-4925.

Constituent Services

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
