Community Resource Fair
NYC Council Member Andy King will host a free Community Health and Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 940 E. Gun Hill Rd. There will be mobile health and legal vans, health screenings, exhibits and resources from community agencies and non-profits, music, giveaways, refreshments and activity for people of all ages. Bird Watching at VC Park
Van Cortlandt Park features free bird walks Saturdays from 8 to 9:30 a.m. until November. Meet at the Nature Center, 246th Street and Broadway. For more information, contact Joseph McManus at McManus638@aol.com.

Scholarship Fund
The Janice and Paul Keesler Scholarship Fund is accepting applications for scholarship assistance. Any student accepted into an accredited university or college and is, or planning to obtain a degree in the area of wildlife management, is eligible for the annual scholarship. Application requests may be sent to The Janice & Paul Kessler Scholarship Fund, c/o Bridget Keesler, P.O. Box 485, Newport, NY 13416 (along with a stamped, self-addressed legal sized #10 envelope), or downloaded at www.keeslerscholarshipfund.org. The completed application must be returned to the committee by Sept 1.

Daycare Provider Workshop
NYC Small Business Services is offering a free 30-hour business growth training class in the Bronx for licensed home-based daycare providers on Saturday mornings starting in September, both in English and Spanish. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
