A man armed with a machete was shot by police in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx on Wednesday, according to the NYPD.
An NYPD spokesperson said officers from the 40th Precinct responded to a 911 call in the vicinity of 2385 3rd Avenue on Wednesday, July 18. “Upon arrival, officers encountered a 24-year-old male holding a large machete,” a spokesperson said. “Officers gave multiple commands to drop the weapon, but he refused to do so.”
Police said the they then deployed a taser unsuccessfully before discharging their service weapon striking the individual in the left arm. They said the victim was removed to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, a machete was recovered on scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
